Location

Efate Island is really the only place in Vanuatu where you will find an international airport, a developed tourism industry, a sealed main road (although many side roads are still dirt) well stocked supermarkets and good medical facilities etc. Although large parts of Efate are still rural villages, Port Vila can be reached from anywhere on the island by the sealed "ring road". The other islands are still very undeveloped. Sarong is located a few hundred metres off this sealed "ring road",

Havannah Harbour is an easy 20 minute drive North-West of the Port Vila airport on the sealed main road. Unlike Port Vila harbour which is highly polluted , Havannah is an idyllic location without the hustle and bustle of Port Vila and its urban chaos and traffic jams.

Havannah Harbour is the best of both worlds. It has a wonderful local community.  The Havannah Harbour community is diverse - it includes Australians, New Zealanders, French, Dutch, Austrian, South African and Scottish, just to name a few. Expatriate homes dot the sheltered harbour-side coastline with stunning views over the calm harbour waters to Lelepa and Moso Island and there are lovely local villages on each of these islands.

You will see the locals, in their banana boats, crossing the harbour every day to come to Efate to go to work or to shop in Port Vila. There is also another local village (Tanoliu) just up the road from Sarong. Most of these locals work for the expats (who live along the harbour front) as "much loved" cleaners or gardeners.

Diving and snorkeling activities thrive in the crystal water of Havannah Harbour amid stunning coral reefs. Local residents are mostly keen swimmers, fishermen or boaties who cannot resist the lure of the harbour and offshore waters.

Description

The Outdoor Setting

Sarong is situated on Sunset Beach in an acre of manicured gardens.  Fruit trees include Kaffir Limes, Lemons, Oranges, Grapefruit, Mango, Avocados, Soursop, Bananas and Paw Paw. An established curry tree compliments lemongrass, rosemary and a variety of other herbs. Mature Frangipani and Jacaranda trees abound amongst a variety of Palm Trees and the garden showcases a wide variety of Hibiscus, Ginger, Cycads, Bougainvillea, Roses and well trimmed hedges. A highlight in the garden is the large Water-Lilly pond adjacent to the beachside dining and outdoor kitchen. Relax in the Beach Pavillion with your morning coffee and watch the turtles snacking just metres from the beach.

Interior Layout

Sarong is famed for its 10 metre-high cathedral ceilings and open-plan living space, dominated by the Grand Piano on display as you enter the main salon. Various seating areas, defined by Persian rugs and tropical ceiling fans, service the large screen TV, a library nook and a window-side reading area.

A large indoor dining table overlooks the luxury designer's kitchen which has two sinks, two dishwashers, two ovens, a built in coffee maker, three wine fridges, a dedicated liquor cabinet, substantial built-in 'easy close' drawers and cupboards, white Ceaserstone countertops and bar seating for six stools.

Three air-conditioned, king size bedrooms - each with an ensuite - lead off the main salon. There is also a large air-conditioned office / fourth bedroom /or second living area which has sliding glass doors with vistas of the swimming pool and the harbour beyond.

A wide hallway with abundant book storage and featured art works leads to the air-conditioned, sound-proof cinema with elevated recliner seating.  The giant screen and surround sound ensure a first class cinema experience.

Another notable feature is the large, Crimsafe screened verandah areas that overlook the harbour-side views to the islands. The black and white tiled spacious, screened verandahs are furnished with an extra long, dining table for 16 persons and an additional living area with  lounge seating for 8 persons.

In fact, the whole property has Crimsafe screens on all doors and windows and this creates a safe haven - day and night - perfect for "insect-free" breezes, without the need to close any of the glass sliding doors.  The main residence also houses a luxury powder room and laundry and has direct access from a 3 car lock-up garage.

Outside, a large, self contained guest-apartment has an additional kitchen, living area, king size bed and luxury bathroom. There is also a dedicated gymnasium pavillion, several undercover dining areas, purpose built shedding for the generator, for the solar battery storage and for the garden tools. In fact, numerous outbuildings dot the landscaped acreage, providing pleasant garden escapes and peaceful privacy.
